Every 1 out of 10 Americans rent a storage unit. For some, storage units are a convenient and appropriate solution for managing excess belongings. However, for many unit renters, the reality is often quite different. According to studies, 30% of storage unit renters admit they don't know what they have in storage. Even worse over 60% of people rent long term. Over time, these spaces can turn into a costly burden rather than a helpful resource. If your storage unit is full of forgotten or broken items, or things you no longer need, it may be time to consider a cleanout.

How Do Cleanouts Work:

  1. Call or text to discuss your cleanout project.

  2. Send detailed pictures or arrange an in-person visit to receive an obligation-free quote.

  3. Accept the quote and pick a day that works for your schedule.

  4. On the day of we will arrive on time and ready to work.

  5. After the initial team walkthrough, items will be sorted, trashed, or donated accordingly.

How Much Do Storage Unit Cleanouts Cost

Of all the cleanout services we offer, storage unit cleanouts usually run the cheapest. However, the cost of cleanouts varies from project to project. Influential factors include the size of the unit, the volume of items to be removed, project location, and the specific services required. Each cleanout is unique and as such we offer free consultations that allow us to assess your situation and provide customized project packages and pricing. We aim to deliver efficient service that meets your needs while respecting your budget.

Why Should I Hire a Cleanout Company

Many of our past clients have told us that they attempted to conduct the cleanout themselves before hiring us. As someone who has orchestrated many cleanouts - it is no easy task. Many people underestimate the necessary manpower, logistics, and equipment necessary to complete a cleanout. Storage units often represent unique challenges as well. Because they are in a secure environment, it is impossible to drop off dumpsters meaning jobs must be completed solely by truck. Indoor storage units also often have little maneuverability, multiple levels, and long winding paths back to the outside. For the uninitiated, storage unit cleanouts can quickly become a headache.

How Long do Storage Unit Cleanouts Take?

Every cleanout is different. However, historically, most cleanouts can be completed in 1 day. If you have multiple units, an unusually large volume, or specialty items it can take longer to complete.

Donate, don't waste!

Carolina Junk Pros prioritizes sustainability and community support. Unlike other companies, we do not trash everything. When conducting a cleanout we first begin by identifying what items can be donated or recycled. Surprisingly, many of the items we find in storage units are new and unused and perfect for donation. Our team is experienced in identifying critical items that can benefit local charities and organizations, ensuring they continue to serve a purpose rather than ending up in a landfill.

What do I Need to do to Prepare for a Cleanout

Technically, you do not need to do anything to prepare for our arrival. It all depends on the level of cleanout or the services chosen during the initial consultation.

If the majority of items are to be donated, recycled, or disposed of - preparation is not necessary. Our team is trained to identify and set aside items of potential interest or value. We will also take additional direction from you in terms of items to keep.

How to Cleanout a Garage, Attic, or Basement

Garages, attics, and basements are often the go-to spaces for storing items in the home. Over time, we tend to forget about what we’ve stashed away, and before you know it, your space is cluttered and unrecognizable. The thought of sorting through all that clutter can be overwhelming, but with the proper approach, it is more than possible. If you are more of a DDIIYeer, here are some steps you can take to reclaim your space.

  1. Safety First - Between animal droppings and years of dust and dirt it is always recommended that you wear gloves and a mask when picking through these spaces.

  2. Tackle One Area at a Time - Focus on one section—whether it’s the garage, attic, or basement. Moving around aimlessly can make it feel as if you are not making any progress. Dedicate your time to one space before moving on.

  3. Sort Items into Categories - Create distinct piles for items to keep, donate, and discard. If something is in poor condition or you don't see yourself using it - it might be time to let it go.

  4. Reorganize What You Keep - Once you’ve sorted, reorganize the items you’re keeping. Group similar items together. Not only does this help you find your items but also prevents you from buying duplicates of items you already own. Consider using labeled storage bins, totes, and shelving to maintain cleanliness and ensure easy access in the future

  5. Free Up Space -  If your home contains large appliances like an extra refrigerator or old furniture that you rarely use, consider having them removed to free up much-needed space.

  6. Schedule Pickup for Donations and Junk - Don’t forget to arrange for the removal of your donations and junk. Whether you need us for just one item or to conduct a full-scale cleanout of your attic, garage, or basement - Call Carolina Junk Pros today to see how we can help.
