What Do I Have To Do To Prepare

No preparation is necessary for hot tub or above ground pool removal. If your hot tub is full of water we can pump it out for you. We can also disconnect it from electrical power. If your pool is full of water, it is preferred that you pump it out prior to our arrival as it may take several hours to drain depending on the size of your sump pump. During the consultation period, all these things will be discussed.

How Can I Get Rid Of an Old Hot Tub Myself

It doesn't always make sense to hire a junk removal. Sometimes it budget constraints or sometimes you're willing to put a little elbow grease in yourself. In either case, here are some tips and tricks to get rid of an old hot tub or above ground pool yourself.

To get rid of an old hot tub, you’ll want to start with preparation and safety. Begin by disconnecting the electricity at the breaker to ensure there’s no power running to the unit. Next, drain the hot tub completely using a submersible pump or the built-in drain spout, making sure water flows into a safe drainage area. Disconnect any plumbing lines by loosening hoses and removing connections to prevent leaks.

Once the tub is empty and detached, assess its size to determine if cutting it down is necessary for removal. In many cases, using a reciprocating saw to cut the tub into smaller sections is a practical approach, as it makes the parts lighter and easier to handle. Remove detachable items like panels, covers, jets, and control panels, setting these aside for recycling or disposal. Carefully cut the tub into sections if it’s too large to transport as a single piece. Be sure to wear gloves and safety goggles for protection. We typically like to use the longest and highest quality blade possible. They can be expensive but the right blade will cut your workload in half. If you have a smaller hot tub, you may be able to load it up into a trailer whole. While specialty tools exist, there are plenty of videos online detailing how to move a shed with PVC pipes and other unique methods.

After dismantling, dispose of the parts properly. Metal and plastic elements can often be recycled, so check with a local recycling center about what they accept. Other pieces will have to be taken to your local landfill for disposal. If you are a resident of that county, you can often dump for free. Make sure to call ahead, to discuss any logistics and questions you may have.

How Can I Get Rid Of an Old Above Ground Pool Myself

Dismantling an above ground pool follows many of the same principles that a hot tub does. You will need many of the same tools and safety gear. Although pools are much larger, they are often less technical than a hot tub. For most pools the disassembly process is just the reverse process of assembly.

  • Drain the Pool: Use a pump or drain plug to remove all water.

  • Remove Accessories: Take out ladders, pumps, filters, and other attachments. If you're pool is attached to a deck, additional demo may be required.

  • Detach the Liner: Carefully cut or unfasten and remove the pool liner.

  • Disassemble the Frame: Unscrew or unbolt frame sections, working methodically.

  • Remove Walls: Carefully take down wall panels or sections.

Disposal is the same for as the hot tub. Depending on the material of your pool, you may be able to scrap the framing. And remember, just because you've done the demo, doesn't mean you have to do the removal. Since most of the hard work has been done by you, the price to remove the debris is now much cheaper than if we would have had to complete the demo ourselves.
