How Can I Get Rid Of Old Playground Equipment

It doesn't always make sense to hire a junk removal company. Whether you are constrained by budget or willing to break a sweat there are multiple options to dispose of playground equipment yourself.

  • Never Do It Alone - No matter how much you have been going to the gym NEVER attempt to dismantle or move playset equipment alone.

  • Proper Equipment - Some pieces can be very heavy. If you feel like you don't have enough manpower, rent or purchase dollies or hand trucks. They make moving heavy items much easier. Always check the weight rating before usage.

  • Proper Tools - At the minimum, you will likely need a set of screwdrivers and and a hex set. If demo is necessary, you will need tools like a circular or reciprocating saw to cut through wood and metal.

  • Prep for Removal - If possible always disassemble your item. The more pieces you can break it down into the more maneuverable and lighter it will be. If you are planning to donate, put any hardware into a Ziploc or plastic bag and secure it to the frame or main piece so that it can later be reassembled.

  • Disposal - Some municipalities provide curbside pickup for bulk items. However, for most playground items it is likely you will have to dispose of it yourself. At a bare minimum, you will need to own, borrow, or rent a pickup truck. If your item is still in good condition you can donate it. If not look for the closest recycling center to you that accepts your type of item/material. Lastly, you can take it to your county landfill (and usually) dump it for free if you are a resident.
